1979年大阪府生まれ奈良県育ち。米国シリコンバレーでのITベンチャー企業での経験を礎に、2011年東日本大震災を機に「ビジネスで地域課題を解決する」を使命に活動。テレビ東京「ガイアの夜明け」で特集され、全国10ヶ所以上で地方創生プロジェクトを推進。
2017年、宮崎県新富町役場が設立した地域商社「こゆ財団」代表理事として、1粒1000円ライチのブランド開発やふるさと納税で100億円以上の寄付金を集め、2018年には国の地方創生優良事例に選定され総理大臣官邸で表彰。
2019年には農業課題解決のため収穫ロボット開発のAGRIST株式会社を創業、代表取締役に就任。国内外20以上のアワード受賞、Forbes Asia 100選出、CNNで世界に紹介されるなど、その革新性は国内外で高く評価。
2024年には、地方の起業家を繋ぐ「一般社団法人ローカル・スタートアップ協会」を設立し、農林水産業の生態系づくりにも尽力。シリコンバレーの知見と日本の地域課題解決への情熱を融合させ、持続可能な社会の実現を牽引する地方創生DXの第一人者。
Junichi Saito – Global Pioneer in Smart Agriculture and Regional Revitalization
Born in Osaka in 1979 and raised in Nara, Junichi Saito built his foundation in business through hands-on experience at an IT startup in Silicon Valley.
In the aftermath of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, he committed himself to solving regional challenges through business innovation. His projects have been featured on TV, and he has led over 10 large-scale revitalization initiatives across Japan.
In 2017, he was appointed Executive Director of Koyu Foundation, a regional trading company established by the local government of Shintomi Town in Miyazaki. There, he led the development of a premium lychee brand selling at 10USD per fruit and raised over 100 million USD through Japan’s hometown tax donation system.
In 2018, his work was recognized by the Japanese government as a national best practice in regional revitalization, and he was honored at the Prime Minister’s Office.
In 2019, Saito founded AGRIST Inc., an award-winning agritech startup focused on solving labor shortages in agriculture with AI-powered harvesting robots. AGRIST has received more than 20 national and international awards, was selected for Forbes Asia 100 to Watch, and has been featured globally by CNN for its groundbreaking innovation.
As a speaker at Fortune’s Brainstorm AI Conference in Singapore, Saito presented on the future of AI in agriculture, emphasizing data-driven, sustainable farming and local-global collaboration.
In 2024, he launched the Local Startup Association of Japan, building ecosystems that empower rural entrepreneurs and modernize agriculture, forestry, and fisheries through digital transformation.
Bridging Silicon Valley insights with Japan’s local realities, Saito is now recognized as a global leader driving the future of sustainable, tech-enabled agriculture.
